Discover Orienteering

A sport of navigation, speed and smart decisions

What is Orienteering?

Orienteering is a sport where participants use a map and compass to navigate through terrain (forest / park / city) and visit a number of control points (controls) in the correct order. The goal is to find all controls in the shortest possible time, but how you choose your route between them is up to each participant. The sport combines physical endurance, speed, and problem-solving.

Orienteering is map-based movement and decision-making

This makes orienteering different from many other running or outdoor sports. In orienteering, the participants do not simply follow a marked route. Instead, they must read the map, understand the terrain, make route choices, move through the area, and constantly compare what they see on the map with what they see around them.
